AI & Imagery
How we use AI-generated images on Rishta Yaqeen and when we display the AI label.
AI-generated images
Rishta Yaqeen uses AI-generated images on parts of this website.
Images marked with the AI symbol have been generated using artificial intelligence. They are used for visual presentation and do not depict actual Rishta Yaqeen users or candidates.
Why we label these images
We believe people should be able to tell when an image has been generated using AI. For us, being transparent about this is simply the right thing to do.
Our AI label
The AI symbol in the upper-left corner of the image above identifies it as AI-generated. We use the same symbol across all website languages.
As the website develops, we may inshallah also use non-AI images. The AI label helps distinguish generated images from other imagery.
Small images and thumbnails
We display the AI label directly on AI-generated images wherever their size allows it to remain clear.
For very small images, we may leave the label out. A readable badge can overpower a small image, while making it small enough to preserve the proportions can make it difficult to read.
Many of these smaller images are used as thumbnails or links to pages where the same image is shown at a larger size. Where a larger version is available, you will inshallah find the AI label there when its displayed size allows it.
A small image without the AI label may still be AI-generated.
Why our images usually do not show faces
There are hadith containing strong warnings about making images of living beings.
One such hadith is narrated by ʿAbdullah ibn ʿUmar رضي الله عنهما. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that those who make such images will be punished on the Day of Resurrection and told to “make alive what you have created.” It is recorded, for example, in Sahih al-Bukhari 5951 and Sahih Muslim 2108a.
Another hadith, narrated by Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه and recorded in Jamiʿ at-Tirmidhi 2806, relates that Jibra’il عليه السلام instructed that the head of an image be removed so that it would become like a tree stump.
At the same time, there are other relevant hadith and different scholarly views about how these teachings apply to different kinds of images, including photography, digital images and, more recently, AI-generated images. For example, Sahih al-Bukhari 6130 records that ʿAisha رضي الله عنها played with dolls in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ.
The warnings cited here come from hadith, not from the Quran. We remain uncertain about how these narrations apply to AI-generated images and are cautious about drawing a definitive conclusion from them alone.
We have no objection to other brothers and sisters using AI-generated images with visible facial features.
For Rishta Yaqeen, we currently prefer a cautious approach. We therefore show people from behind, without visible facial features. At the moment, we believe this is inshallah the safest approach for us.
If you notice an image on our website showing visible facial features, please let us know at salam@rishtayaqeen.com. Including a link to the page would help us find it.
